Botanical Name: Cymbopogon Nardus
Botany and Origins: Citronella is a tall-tufted long-life perennial grass with narrow, highly aromatic leaves. It comes from the Poaceae family which are a group of flowering grasses which Lemongrass also belongs to. This invigorating essential oil is the ‘Ceylon type’, native to Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). You'll find that our Citronella has a rose nuance due to a high geraniol content and as such is more pleasant in scent than the Citronella Java type (Winterianus).
History: Although its origins are not recorded, Citronella has long been used by the people of Southern India, Sri Lanka and Java. Poultices were made to soothe abrasions and bruises and the highly aromatic oil used extensively in perfuming.
Method of Extraction: Steam Distilled
