Ripe, fragrant strawberries simmered down into luscious, thick compote, outside Nantes in north-west France. We love this on buttered toast or muesli in the morning. Perfect with chocolate puddings, sandwiched in a Victoria sponge, and spooned over scones spread with clotted cream, for a divine afternoon tea.
